What to expect
on your first visit

During your first visit to OsteoPlaza, our experienced osteopath will conduct a comprehensive intake interview to discuss your complaints and medical history. After this conversation, we perform a thorough physical examination to find the underlying causes of your complaints.

Based on the findings from this examination, we create a personalized treatment plan tailored to effectively address your physical complaints. We will also begin treatment during this first session. Although this treatment may be shorter due to the time needed for the intake interview and examination, it still lays a solid foundation for your recovery process.

Frequently asked questions

How is osteopathy different from other treatments such as physical therapy?

An osteopath looks for the root cause of complaints. This involves looking at the whole body and considering it as an integrated system. A physical therapist focuses only on the region where the symptoms are located and makes greater use of exercises to reduce these symptoms. Osteopathy takes a more “hands-on” approach. This is done by moving tissues (e.g., joints, muscles and connective tissue around organs) with the hands.

Is osteopathy scientifically based?

Yes, osteopathy is substantiated by research demonstrating its effectiveness for certain conditions such as abdominal pain, headaches, back pain, neck pain and other musculoskeletal complaints. Research in osteopathy is constantly growing and evolving.

Why not exercise after osteopathic treatment?

After osteopathic treatment, it is recommended not to exercise to give your body time to respond to the treatment. Sports can overload the treated areas or cause new tension, which can slow down the recovery process. It is better to wait 24 to 48 hours before exercising again.

Do I need a referral from a GP?

No, a doctor’s referral is not necessary to visit an osteopath. Clients can make an appointment right away.

Is osteopathy covered by health insurance?

Osteopathy is often partially covered under supplementary insurance policies. It is advisable to check your policy or contact your insurer for specific coverage.
